Thank You Sponsors!

Within South Side Park – a 65-acre signature community park, bordering South Side Flats, South Side Slopes, and Arlington – there is a 10-acre area, known as ‘Jurassic Valley’ for its diverse topography and overgrowth of invasive species and vines.

With a new South Side Park Master Plan in place, Friends of South Side Park continues work to restore Jurassic Valley and are planning the 3rd Annual Goat Fest for July 27, 2019.

For more information about how you can support this year’s event, please contact Friends of South Side Park by phone at 412-586-5807, Ext. 6, or by email at friendsofsouthsideparkpgh@gmail.com. Please make all checks payable to the “South Side Community Council”, a 501(c)(3) serving as the fiscal sponsor for Goat Fest 2019, and send to 122 South 17th Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15203.

Additional Information:

In 2017, the Allegheny County Conservation District supported Phase 1 of ecological restoration in Jurassic Valley with a $10,000 grant that allowed for 6 weeks of invasive vine removal by Allegheny Goatscape and set the stage for the first Goat Fest, which attracted 1,000 participants to South Side Park. The event was followed by 5 volunteer restoration workdays with Pittsburgh Cares, Dick’s Sporting Goods, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, Pittsburgh Sports League and Duquesne University.

Allegheny Goatscape was contracted by Friends of South Side Park for a second time in 2018, again with the support of the Allegheny County Conservation District, to bring 10 goats and 1 donkey to South Side Park for 40 days. The 2nd Annual Goat Fest drew more than 3,000 attendees to South Side Park. The 2018 event included the additions of a larger food truck round-up, expanded live music, a new craft vendor market, and improved parking. Throughout the event all three parking lots were full to capacity, and every trail in the park was filled with families traversing the hillsides. www.goatfestpgh.com
